Dzisiaj zabieram Was ze sobą w kolejną przygodę z Project Quilting, czyli cyklem szybkich, tygodniowych wyzwań, które potrafią wycisnąć z człowieka kreatywność jak cytrynę. Tym razem temat brzmi „Scads of Plaid”, czyli… mnóstwo kraty. I to dosłownie. Wyzwanie trwa tylko tydzień, więc liczy się szybkie działanie i dobra zabawa.

Today I’m taking you along on another adventure with Project Quilting — a series of fast, one‑week challenges that can squeeze creativity out of a person like juice from a lemon. This time the theme is “Scads of Plaid”, which means… a whole lot of plaid. Quite literally. The challenge lasts only a week, so quick action and a sense of fun are essential.

Heute nehme ich euch mit auf ein weiteres Abenteuer mit Project Quilting — einer Reihe schneller, einwöchiger Herausforderungen, die einem die Kreativität herauspressen können wie Zitronensaft. Diesmal lautet das Thema „Scads of Plaid“, also… jede Menge Karos. Und zwar wortwörtlich. Die Herausforderung dauert nur eine Woche, daher zählen schnelles Handeln und Spaß am Nähen.

Projekt musi: powstać od początku do końca w czasie trwania wyzwania, zawierać kratę w wyraźny sposób, spełniać przynajmniej jeden z trzech warunków: patchwork, aplikacja lub trzy warstwy zszyte ręcznie/maszynowo.
Organizatorki zostawiły nam szerokie pole do interpretacji — można użyć gotowej tkaniny w kratę albo stworzyć własną iluzję kraty z pasków, form i kolorów.

The project must: be created from start to finish during the challenge week, clearly feature plaid, and meet at least one of the following: patchwork, appliqué, or three layers stitched by hand or machine. The organizers gave us plenty of room for interpretation — you can use ready‑made plaid fabric or create your own illusion of plaid using stripes, shapes, and colors.

Das Projekt muss: vollständig innerhalb der Woche entstehen, ein deutlich erkennbares Karomuster enthalten, und mindestens eines der folgenden Kriterien erfüllen: Patchwork, Applikation oder drei Lagen, die von Hand oder mit der Maschine zusammengenäht wurden.

Die Organisatorinnen haben uns viel Interpretationsspielraum gelassen — man kann fertige Karostoffe verwenden oder selbst eine Illusion von Karos aus Streifen, Formen und Farben gestalten.

A ja od razu pomyślałam o… kuchni! A konkretnie — o rękawicach kuchennych. Dziwne skojarzenie. Wykonałam parę rękawic z kontrastowych tkanin — z jednej strony ciemne, z drugiej jasne, a całość pikowana w kratkę. Co ciekawe, sam wzór tkaniny również przypomina nietypową kratkę, taką mozaikową, geometryczną, trochę jak kafelki w śródziemnomorskiej kuchni.

And I immediately thought of… the kitchen! More specifically — oven mitts. A strange association, I know.
I made a pair of mitts from contrasting fabrics — dark on one side, light on the other — and quilted the whole thing in a plaid pattern. Interestingly, the fabric design itself also resembles an unusual kind of plaid: mosaic‑like, geometric, a bit like tiles in a Mediterranean kitchen.

Und ich dachte sofort an… die Küche! Genauer gesagt — an Topfhandschuhe. Eine seltsame Assoziation, ich weiß.
Ich habe ein Paar Handschuhe aus kontrastierenden Stoffen genäht — eine Seite dunkel, die andere hell — und das Ganze in einem Karomuster gesteppt. Interessanterweise erinnert auch das Stoffdesign selbst an ein ungewöhnliches Karomuster: mosaikartig, geometrisch, fast wie Fliesen in einer mediterranen Küche.

Rękawice mają trzy warstwy: wierzchnią z bawełny, podwójną, grubą ocieplinę bawełnianą, oraz podszewkę z ciemnej tkaniny bawełnianej.
Całość przepikowałam w prostą kratkę, która nadaje strukturę i wzmacnia całość. Dodałam też pętelki do zawieszenia, bo przecież w kuchni liczy się wygoda.

The mitts have three layers: a cotton outer layer, a double thick cotton batting, and a lining made from dark cotton fabric.
I quilted everything in a simple grid, which adds structure and strength. I also added hanging loops — because convenience matters in the kitchen.

Die Handschuhe bestehen aus drei Schichten: einer äußeren Baumwollschicht, einer doppelten dicken Baumwollwatte und einem Futter aus dunklem Baumwollstoff.
Ich habe alles in einem einfachen Gittermuster gesteppt, das Struktur und Stabilität verleiht. Außerdem habe ich Schlaufen zum Aufhängen hinzugefügt — denn in der Küche zählt die Praktikabilität.

To był szybki projekt, ale dał mi mnóstwo radości. Uwielbiam, gdy coś praktycznego może jednocześnie być estetyczne i pełne charakteru. A że temat wyzwania to „Scads of Plaid”, czyli „mnóstwo kraty” — to chyba trafiłam w sedno!

It was a quick project, but it brought me so much joy. I love when something practical can also be beautiful and full of character. And since the challenge theme is “Scads of Plaid” — I think I hit the mark!

Es war ein schnelles Projekt, aber es hat mir große Freude bereitet. Ich liebe es, wenn etwas Praktisches gleichzeitig schön und charaktervoll sein kann. Und da das Thema der Herausforderung „Scads of Plaid“ lautet — habe ich wohl ins Schwarze getroffen!
