As part of the project “Art, Craft, Ecology – Unique Armchairs in the Gallery”, implemented and funded by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (KPO), three exceptional armchairs were created — each different, each telling its own story. Their common thread was raw-edge appliqué, hand-cut and quilted on a long-arm machine, embellished with beads that add depth and sparkle to the floral motifs.
🌸 The first armchair — expressive, full of energy. The appliqué depicts blue and white flowers with green leaves, and on the right by the seat rests an butterfly. A composition that catches the eye and evokes the feeling of a summer garden.
🌿 The second armchair — delicate, yet full of character. Red poppies bloom on the side panel and armrest, while two dragonflies hover above — one on the arm, the other near the flowers. A natural palette and subtle appliqué create a harmonious whole.
🌷 The third armchair – elegant, deep in tone. Pink blossoms contrast with the velvet navy blue of the upholstery, while an butterfly adds lightness. A chair that speaks of the union of strength and delicacy.
This project was a tremendous challenge for me. Time was short, and each armchair required many hours of work — sitting, focusing, and precision. After removing my orthopedic brace, I couldn’t keep my leg down because it swelled badly. When I raised it, my spine ached from long hours of sitting. It was a difficult and exhausting time — physically and emotionally. Yet every stitch, every beaded appliqué was a step toward something greater: toward art that truly matters
After completing the armchairs, the Podkarpacka Foundation for Cultural Development organized an educational meeting on November 7, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Gallery with a Taste of Coffee INTERPIANO, ul. 3 Maja 15 in Sanok. I had the honor of speaking about ecological techniques in art, the idea of upcycling, and sustainable design.
During the meeting, participants discovered practical examples of combining functional art with care for the environment. Using patchwork techniques, I demonstrated how to creatively reuse recycled materials and integrate ecological thinking into contemporary design. It was a beautiful opportunity to share knowledge, passion, and experience.
