The dog that became the hero of my latest project is named “Kora” and is with her owner already.
Making this dog was a real adventure, because quilting has a big impact on the final look of the work. So, I had to carefully plan how to do this step. I started with the eye and then continued along the ear and neck. This was the simpler part of the quilting.
However, I ran into a few problems. First, I had no threads in my collection that would match the fur on the face. I had to improvise and ended up mixing different shades. Secondly, the nose posed a challenge as well.
To quilt it properly, I had to do some research and went to look at three different dog noses. Did you know that some dogs have hair under their noses, while others have something more like a sponge? I found out about this while studying the topic.
The background was the easiest part to quilt as I just wanted to tone down the color and give it some texture. So, I used the meanders. Quilting is discreet and achieved the intended effect. I used ISACORD embroidery threads and poked the needle 658,228 times into the fabric.
