Vacation time is over, time to get back to work.
Today I would like to share with you my latest project, which is very close to somebody’s heart. This is a portrait of his beloved dog, that I have made from fabric and wool.
The project contains 120 elements, that I cut, glued, and quilted. It was not an easy task, because I wanted to show all the details of the fur coat, eyes and mouth.
I traced all the elements on double-sided fusible web.
During the drawing, I introduced additional modifications to the project.
Then I started cutting out the individual elements. Here, too, I made small changes to make my project look even better.
Unfortunately, I had to bring some order to the cutouts. Good thing I have so many bowls.
To create the portrait, I chose my favorite Northcott fabrics from the Stonehenge collection. They have beautiful colors and textures, perfect for imitating fur.
I started with the area around the eyes, which is unique characteristic of a dog.
The first phase of the dog is over.
Then I made the eye from worsted wool, which gives it depth and brilliance.
Finally, I had to choose the right background for the animal. I found in my closet the perfect fabric dyed by me, which has a unique pattern and colors. I think it fits the dog perfectly and emphasizes its beauty.
Now all I have to do is quilt the whole picture, which is the most enjoyable part of the job for me. I hope you like my project and that it will inspire you to create portraits of your own pets.
