The Rocks II

The Rocks II

Hi, it’s me, Sylwia 2. A while ago I wrote about a project by Rita Gazubey. My previous project was made using the raw edge applique. I liked the concept so much that I decided to make an art quilt using the thread painting technique. Let’s begin.

I put the project on my light table and then covered it with a water-soluble interlining. I traced the pattern.

I put the interlining r on the sandwich and quilted the pattern. The color of the thread must be very neutral to be able to blend in with other colors.

I soaked in entire piece into water to make the stabilizer disappeared, I naturally dried the project. And I got “quilted” pattern.

I have to share with you a secret. While working on this piece I realized that the threads do not cover the background as I expected, so I decided to paint the selected elements with Derwent Ink Pencils in a more suitable color and then covered them with a thread of a similar shade. It worked.

The background was quilted  with several different patterns. Oh, and one more thing …the trees were done using the raw edge applique. That would be all.
