Do you like diamonds? I like them very much, but unfortunately, I’ve never had any to this day. However this finally changed all thanks to Kim Lapacek’s Fourth Challenge- “Diamond Mining,” which you can read about here.
You might be wondering how I was able to get my hands on my very first diamond, well, I am happy to tell you.
A long time ago I received a few sheets of water-soluble paper sheets from Ania Slawinska . For several years now this paper has remained hidden deep in the depths of my wardrobe, lying in wait.
It waited and waited. The first time I ever used it was to create my very first diamond. “What an honor,” thought the paper.
I took one sheet of this paper, and very delicately, drew the design of my diamond. When I was finished, I could tell that the paper was very pleased. But this was just the beginning.
I placed the paper on some fabric and stretched it onto the hoop.
When the whole thing was stretched tight on the hoop, I started sewing by hand with a needle. I sewed through the paper and the fabric. The paper probably thought that it was going to stay there permanently.
After I finished sewing, I cut off the excess paper to the size of my diamond and went to dissolve the paper in some water. The paper was not pleased.
It resisted for a pretty long time, before finally succumbing.
At the end it flowed with the water, down into the drain, and I never sew it again. This is where the story of the paper ends.
But this is not the end yet. After all, a diamond was created.
To make my diamond even more beautiful, I decided to decorate it with blue cubic zirconia.
However, to meet the requirements of the fourth challenge, I had to sew it. This time I thought it would be a good idea to make a case for my headphones, and this beautiful diamond will become the main ornament.
I used the “Circle Zip Earbud Pouch” tutorial by Erin Erickson, who also hosts the “Dog Under My Desk” blog.
I will not be describing the individual steps of the entire process since Erin did this in her tutorial in great detail. So why duplicate something that is already done so well. With the help of some photos, I can show you how my diamond found its way onto the headphone case.
