“The Influence of the Kitchen” is the title of Kim Lapacek’s third challenge. I’m not sure if I translated it into Polish very well. The task is to make something functional for the kitchen or the dining room.
I had several ideas, and at first, I could not make up my mind. Eventually, in the end I decided to make a fruit bowl for the kitchen, inspired by Valentine’s Day. I made my project in Corel. Below you can see a photo of the design while in progress.

I printed out the design, and copied onto some freezer paper.
Of course, you can print out the design directly onto the freezer paper if you have it in letter size. I only had rolls.
Next, I cut out all the elements and glued them to the selected fabrics and cut them out again.
Remember not to leave any seam allowance, there is NO seam allowance in this project.
Cut along the edges of the finished pattern.
When all the elements were cut out, I attached them onto a stiffener board with glue.
I cut out all the pieces. Thanks to the stiffener board, all of the elements were now rigid, just like I wanted.
Instead of batting, I used double sided fusible web to join all the individual elements.
I glued it on all of the pieces.
I cut everything out and then glued them together. After the glue-up was done, here is what I’m left with – one hexagon, six triangles, six hearts.
I connected triangles and hearts.
Remember! Only the longer arm of the triangle is sewn to the hearts. The shorter arm will be sewn to the hexagon (at the very end).
I recommend that you pin the sides together before sewing the last part.
I did not pin the sides myself and it made the quilting very hard because the whole piece was very stiff, and it was hard to push it under the needle.
In the pictures below you can see how crooked my quilting turned out.
I sewed in the hexagon to the bottom of the triangles and finished it with dense zig-zag stiches.
My fruit bowl is ready.
