Sezon 13 Project Quilting- First Challenge

Remember when a year ago I found a fun game called PROJECT QUILTING, on the blog “Persimon Dreams,” by Kim Lapacek. This time she wrote that: “the design does not have to be a traditional quilt but must meet at least one of the following requirements: include patchwork, include an applique, must have three layers sewn by hand or sewing machine.” The artist challenges you and every participant and gives you a week to complete it.

This year we are playing along again. The title of the challenge is “All Colors”. We must use at least five different colors in this project. So, let’s get to work.

I wrote before that I do not like making projects without a specific purpose. Exactly. I have a chance to make something that will be useful to me. Last year I made a binder cover, this year I want to make another one. I actually need four more. Maybe I’ll find the time to make all of them.

I drew a square on some double-sided fusible fabric, which I then divided into 1” strips.

I cut the colored fabrics into 2” strips.

Next, I tried to create the best color composition.

Once I was satisfied with my arrangement, I started to glue the first strip to the previously prepared square of fusible fabric.

I put a blue strip on the already glued (pink) strip. I sewed them together along the line. Then I ironed them out and glued them using the iron.

When all of the colorful strips were glued and sewn on, I straightened out my square.

Next, I decorated it with a basting stitch going around the square.

I sewed on some crazy buttons.

Next, it was time to rip off the back paper from the fusible.

I measured the binder, drew it out and then cut the pieces from the felt with glue.

I cut the square from the front part of the cover.

I glued on the previously prepared square.

Next, I glued the fabric to the felt, which additionally covered the cut square.

I folded and sewed the wings to form pockets for the binder cover.

I slid in the binder.

The multicolor cover is ready. I wish I had bigger selection of colors of the felt with glue, then it would be even more colorful.
