Hi, it’s me Sylwia 2, again. Once again, I was invited by the host of this blog, to share my experiences with you. I have to admit, that this is always a pleasure, because I admire Sylwia 1 for her diligence, skill, and kindness.
Today I am going to tell you a story that started a few years ago. Coincidently, of course on Facebook, a friend of mine posted an image of a piece of work made using the quilling method. I dreamed that maybe someday I would be able to sew a quilt based on that image, but then I did not even know how to start. After some time, I found out that the author of that work was Yulia Brodskaya (I’ve mentioned here before that she is my favorite artist) and the original title is “The Beauty of Old Age”.
Years passed, on my path I met many wonderful and talented girls, and among them was Sylwia Ignatowska. Meeting Sylwia 1 brought many positive changes in my sewing life. When she invited me to her studio, I was stunned with joy. After returning home, I had the hope that if Sylwia 1 can create such beautiful works, maybe I can succeed too. When I mentioned to her about my plans of trying to sew this particular quilt, she asked- “what are you waiting for?”. I guess I needed that little push. She helped me print up a template and then I took the most difficult step, that is, I started.
Little Devil: “You won’t manage.” Little Angel: “You’ll do it the way you can.”
Little Devil: “Sylwia 1 would do it much better.” Little Angel: “So what? It’s your work.”
Little Devil: “When Yulia sees it, she’ll burst out laughing.” Little Angel: “Then you’ll laugh together.”
Little Devil: “Give up.” Little Angel: “Don’t even think about it.”
And so, this continued from the very beginning, all the way to the end. I have experienced that the artist’s life is not a bed of roses.
When I finished, I asked Yulia for permission to show my quilt in public, and of course she agreed and wrote back to me that one little letter can make a big difference. A few weeks later Yulia posted my quilt next to her project on her Instagram account. That was a huge honor for me.
