Stitching slow stories...

The fight for life.

The fight for life.

It all started with a tiny bacteria and ended with a fight for life.

As you may remember from my previous post, Pimpuś had a damaged eardrum due to bacteria. He started on antibiotics. The antibiotics caused an upset stomach and, ultimately, a blockage.

He stopped eating and drinking, did not make a single sound, and his tummy became very tight. He was sitting in a corner and grinding his teeth. Teeth grinding in rabbits is very often a symptom of pain. Rabbits suffering from gastrointestinal obstruction sometimes just give up and die (that’s what it looks like), possibly sometimes from extreme abdominal pain.

We went to the vet and the fight for life began. I fed him a dozen times a day with a syringe containing rescue feed for rabbits. He was given pineapple juice for better digestion, medication, and I massaged his tummy very gently.

My heart was braking when I was watching how much he was suffering.

At one point it got very bad. I was afraid that he was not going to survive the night. It was very traumatic for me. All of my time and my thoughts were devoted only to Pimpus.

There was slight improvement on Thursday, and on Friday he began to eat slowly. His digesting system started working and the little pellets awaited by everyone in the house finally appeared.

At that moment I knew that my little sunshine was saved.

Pimpuś

During all these days, my thoughts were focused only on Pimpus, so there was no question of any kind of sewing. I hope to catch up on all of this next week and show off my progress.
