Continuing with my sewing of The Birthstone Series by MJ Kinman, this time I worked on the April birthstone – diamond. The pattern has eight sections and eleven colors.
On the previous post, I wrote about techniques using freezer paper, a method the author of the pattern recommends. I decided to replace it with the FPP method.
Just like the previous pattern, this also came with two prints-one on regular paper and one on freezer paper.
I scanned every block, enlarged about 30%, printed and added ¼ “ stitch allowance.
I prepared the color chart.
And I started sewing. I wrote in detail about the FPP method HERE.
Using the printout that came on regular paper as help, I arranged the sewn blocks according to the plan, creating sections.
As you can see, the referenced points are precisely marked. So, this is how I sewed all sections and connected them one after the other, creating the whole piece.
I cut a heart shaped hole in the background fabric (at least ¼” smaller than the diamond heart). There is also two-sided fusible web around the edges. I put it on my diamond heart and ironed it.
I quilted it, and now it’s ready to shine, and remember a diamond is forever.
The size of the quilt is 63x58cm (25”x23”)
