Do you remember OKEANOS, the piece whose origin I showed you before? If not, check it out here<\/a>. Today I can tell you more about further progress that I have made.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After I managed to make the sky, I started working on the light house.<\/p>\n\n\n

The hardest part was to decide what to cut and what to leave in the light house. I wanted to keep it as close to the originals as possible.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

When the light house was almost ready, I connected the sky with the ocean.  Next, I glued the light house. I made a light. I cut the rays out of the yellow fabric, which I additionally painted with gold shimmering paint. It worked out pretty well. In the final process planned on quilting it with a golden thread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You could say that the light house is finished.<\/p>\n\n\n

Now is the time for the hardest part-the ocean.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I initially counted the number of the pieces it would be composed off and it came out to more than a thousand. Not bad.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I used a rough application here. I used double sided fusible web. I am incredibly happy that it was invented. Without it, it would take months to make an art quilt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 I tried to make the ocean with individual colors, which I cut with scissors and put them into separate bowls.<\/p>\n\n\n

Each color was additionally divided into sections and placed into appropriate bowls. As you can see below, there were many. If they were all in one bowl, I would never find the right element. And it was just the white color. And where are the rest?<\/p>\n\n\n

The elements that I already glued to the underside layer of the ocean, I marked on with a colored pencil on a diagram.<\/p>\n\n\n

I felt like a little kid that paints coloring books and arranges difficult puzzles. <\/p>\n\n\n

Of course, I had helpers. Each one wanted to choose the fabric, that would be used in my quilt. This time there was no fight. <\/p>\n\n\n

Work on the ocean was moving very slowly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An inspection took place in every few days. They checked whether the fabrics they selected have already been used.<\/p>\n\n\n

Each of them did it at different times.<\/p>\n\n\n

If something was not going their way, they gave me the cold shoulder. <\/p>\n\n\n

But that was not even the worst part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A terrible thing happened. My tiny PRYM iron broke. I was extremely despaired. I could not buy it anywhere. I had to use the big one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You certainly know how hard it is to stick tiny elements using a big regular iron.  While gluing down, sometimes I needed to make some minor corrections and a big iron did not help with this at all. <\/p>\n\n\n

At one point I thought I was not going to finish it. The work on it dragged for a long time. I was sitting and working for days until my spine hurt. I cut and glued and cut and glued again. On and on, it felt endless.  After my tiny iron broke, I had moments of doubt. I was wondering if I ever will be able to finish it. I was sitting over my unfinished quilt and cried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That was a hard time for me. I think none of my quilts have even been this laborious and complicated.<\/p>\n\n\n

Here is the quilt almost done.  I just need to glue a few missing elements and I can start quilting it. I will<\/em> tell you about this process next time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
