Hi, it is me again, Sylwia 2. There will be more photos today because the story of how my latest project came to life is a bit long. So, let\u2019s get to work. More than two years ago I bought a book called \u201cFabulous Fractures\u201d, by Brenda Esslinger. In it, Brenda describes how to perform a specific quilt, and what patterns should be used, and which should not. First, I sewed a basic pattern, i.e. strips cut at an angle of 90 degrees. It was a small quilt that I gave to my grandchildren. The book eventually spent its time resting on a bookshelf until recently, when the Polish Patchwork Association announced a quilt exhibition called \u201cFlowers\u201d. I thought that the \u201cfractures\u201d might be a good idea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This time I chose a more difficult method to work with by cutting the strips at an angle of 60 degrees, instead of 90. My Guardian Angel told me to sew some samples first. I must confess, I sewed a few samples according to what I thought the instructions in the book were telling me to do. None of them looked like the ones pictured in the book. One time the host of this blog wrote that a happy wife is a happy home. Well this is a two-way street \u2013 an unhappy wife is an unhappy home. I was very unhappy. So, my lovely husband came to the rescue. Together we cut, we sewed, and we kept looking for tricks to help us perfect this method.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here is a detailed instruction on how my 60-degree, diamond shaped quilt was created.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As I mentioned before, the theme here was flowers. So, in Quilt Studio in The Swoszowice Shopping Mall, I bought beautiful roses from the collection, \u201cHopelessly Romantic\u201d, by Deborah Edwards.<\/p>\n\n\n

I cut four identical rose motifs, in a size of 9.5×9.5, and labeled two of them with an A, and two of them with a B.<\/p>\n\n\n

Since the cuts are at 60 degrees, we have to sew diagonally. I decided to stiffen the fabric with a thin interlining to make it more obedient. I stiffened all four panels this way.<\/p>\n\n\n

On the \u201cwrong\u201d side of our four panels I marked lines to help with sewing accuracy. Each line runs at a 60-degree angle, starting from each of the four corners. These lines should be parallel to your cutting lines.<\/p>\n\n\n

Today we have a beautiful autumn day. And my husband invited me for a walk to take advantage of this gorgeous autumn day. We both need some relaxing time.
