\u201cThe virtual vacation\u201d -this is the title of the third challenge that you can find on Kim Lapacek\u2019s website \u201cPROJECT QUILTING<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I was little, I often went on vacation to my grandparents in the countryside. It was not too far<\/em> from where I lived, but for me it was always a pretty big trip.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those were amazing days. They were full of sunshine, joy, and adventures. It was there that I had the<\/em> opportunity to stroke a newly born calf for the first time. I learned to climb trees and fell into ditches full<\/em> of nettles while learning to ride a bike. I learned to use a hammer while nailing wooden boxes. I fed<\/em> rabbits, \u201cthe giant ones\u201d (compered to my little ones), with dandelion and clover. I jumped on hay and<\/em> did many other mysterious things that little explorers do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, what stuck in my mind the most was a beautiful memory of an enchanted meadow, full of<\/em> fragrant chamomiles. In this meadow my mother showed me how to wind flower wreaths for the first<\/em> time. I remember, when looking from my grandparents\u2019 yard, the meadow reached the horizon, and it<\/em> was full of white flowers. It was enough to open a small wooden gate and I was already in another<\/em> world. I think If I had heard about fairies or little elves back then, I would have believed that they lived<\/em> there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 I know that it\u2019s not very realistic, and that today my grandparents are gone, as is my mother, that yard is not there anymore, and that lovely meadow disappeared, but if I just had the opportunity, I would love to spend my summer vacation there again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, I decided to make a card full of chamomile flowers. Among my scraps I found a fabric<\/em> (hand dyed by me) in a beautiful green and I added little chamomile flowers onto it with a pencil.<\/p>\n\n\n

Next, using fabric paint, I started coloring the flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yellow first.<\/p>\n\n\n

Then green. It is a glitter color and shimmers nicely in the light. Then it was time to add some white.<\/em> Additionally, I used silver paint to color the edges of the petals. I was hoping that this would emphasize<\/em> each individual petal, but it did not work out that way.<\/p>\n\n\n

Therefore, in addition, I used a black permanent marker on the petals. It came out well.<\/p>\n\n\n

All that\u2019s left is to quilt and my little card will be ready. But how do I machine quilt such a tiny thing. I<\/em> could use a regular sewing machine, but that\u2019s not what I bought a Bernina Q24 for. Let\u2019s see what that<\/em> little one is capable of.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, I put on a tiny table that is mounted when quilting with rulers, I locked the guides, lifted the handles,<\/em> and started the machine.<\/p>\n\n\n

The beginning was weird. I was necessary for me to switch to the fact that not the machine, but the fabric moved under the foot.<\/p>\n\n\n

I quilted fine meanders, and after a few minutes it was ready. My Bernina did a great job.<\/p>\n\n\n

Using double side fusible web, I glued an additional piece of fabric onto the back of my postcard,<\/em> covering any visible stiches.<\/p>\n\n\n

I trimmed to the suitable size and covered the edges with a thick zigzag stich.<\/p>\n\n\n

When the card was covered all around with the zigzag, I decided to additionally decorate the edges with<\/em> a manual cover stich in yellow.<\/p>\n\n\n

Then I sewed in yellow beads.<\/p>\n\n\n

Then I started to work on the back of the card. I divided my card in half with a hand stitch. I also made<\/em> helping lines for the address and name and a place for the postal stamp.<\/p>\n\n\n

I also wanted to make a postal stamp but could not decide what method I should use. In the end I also<\/em> colored in the centers of the chamomile flowers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My postcard is finished. In my opinion, it turned out beautiful.<\/p>\n\n\n
