Starting now, every other week, I will be tormenting you by posting a description of the challenges that<\/em> our group gets from Kim Lapacek, which you can read about it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn Silhouette\u201d<\/a> This week\u2019s challenge focuses on contrast and design. Now this might<\/em> be the shape of a landmark illuminated against a breaking sky or a trace outline<\/em> of a child\u2019s profile displayed on a wall in the back. But it doesn\u2019t have to be just shadow and darkness.<\/em> This is, more or less, the content of the challenge. Now I just need an idea and I\u2019ll be ready to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It took me a while to come up with something practical and useful. I decided to make a container for all<\/em> of my cat\u2019s toys. My cat got a lot of toys for Christmas this year, which are now scattered all around the<\/em> house. It creates chaos and clutter, which I do not like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my first project of this type, so I made many mistakes. It happened that, while working, a lot of<\/em>my ideas did not make sense, but it worked out in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I cut two rectangles and two circles. I added an allowance for seams.<\/p>\n\n\n

On one rectangle, I used a pencil to draw three cat-like contours and some paws.<\/p>\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

I cut along the lines.<\/p>\n\n\n

I took the black fabric and cut out (with a slight allowance) cat\u2019s silhouettes.<\/p>\n\n\n

\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

I put it under previously cut cats.<\/p>\n\n\n

\n
\"\"<\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Then I re-cut a few rectangles and circles (minus the extra seams) made of interlining with glue and<\/em> some stiffener with glue.<\/p>\n\n\n

I glued it on the fabric with cats.<\/p>\n\n\n

I sewed around the bays tape, which I strengthened with very light, fusible web.<\/p>\n\n\n

I put the edge without bays tape next the edge with the one and pressed well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bays tape perfectly glued both edges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I sewed the bottom of the container in.<\/p>\n\n\n

I decorated cats figures with the basting stitch.<\/p>\n\n\n

I sewed an extra pouch.<\/p>\n\n\n

I basted the pouch and sewed onto the previously made container. The purpose of the pouch is to cover<\/em> all of the stitches inside the container.<\/p>\n\n\n

The end. My container is ready. Slowly, I will gather all the cat\u2019s toys in it.<\/p>\n\n\n
