Yes, you read that right! It all started when I came across a beautiful doily pattern in the magazine ‘Anna,’ in 1998. I was fascinated by the pattern and wanted to make it, but unfortunately I couldn’t find the right materials in Poland. I looked everywhere, called different stores, but to no avail. I gave up on the idea and forgot about the doily.

But fate had other plans! This year, during Romanian lace classes at the University of Folk Arts and Crafts, I learned how to make string, which is the basis of this technique. This string is attached to a pattern and connected with a needle, creating a mesh that is then filled with various stitches. And you know what? When I started making the string, I remembered that doily from 1998! I thought it was the perfect opportunity to try making it with Romanian lace. Of course, I had to change the pattern a bit and use a different material, but the effect will be very similar to the original.

I won’t lie, it’s a very time-consuming task. The string is made of thin cordon and a 1.25 mm crochet hook, so you need a lot of patience and precision. For now, I only have part of the string ready, which I have already attached to the pattern. There is still a lot of work ahead of me to fill in the empty spaces with a needle and cord. But I’m full of enthusiasm and I can’t wait to show you the finished doily. It will be my little work of art!

Today I want to share with you my passion for Romanian lace and tell you about my doily project, which started over 20 years ago.
