For 26 years, the International Quilt and Patchwork Festival QUILTBRASIL hosting both, domestic and foreign participants, facilitating the exchange of experiences and knowledge through lectures, courses, fairs, exhibitions, and competitions. During this time, the event has grown and established itself as the main event of its kind in Brazil, opening new opportunities and spaces. The festival has become stronger and better prepared, always welcoming new and loyal guests with open arms to celebrate and honor the art of quilting and patchwork together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2024, Rio Grande do Sul was hit by a brutal and unimaginable climate tragedy, causing an environmental, social, and economic crisis that made the in-person event planned for September 2024 unfeasible. However, a virtual edition was organized, which attracted an incredible diversity of talents from around the world! The difficult task of judging fell on the shoulders of \u00a0Deolina Moraes, Ana Helena Barbosa de Abreu, and Marina Landi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were six categories to in which one could submit their work according to their style and format preferences. The competition was open to both, loyal participants and those who wanted to start their new adventure with the exhibition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the categories was \u201cSINGLE WOVEN PANEL\u201d (width plus height from 160 cm to 300 cm), in which the project is made from a single piece of fabric (no cuts) and where quilting is emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I submitted my \u201cFern.\u201d I admit, I made it specifically for this competition. Until the very last minute, I didn\u2019t even know if I would make it time. I even had a few moments of hesitation. It was a very difficult and exhausting time for me. For the first time, since I started quilting, my hands hurt at night. But that\u2019s all behind me, I made it.<\/p>\n\n\n

On August 30, 2024, I found out that I was a finalist in the International Quilt and Patchwork Festival QUILTBRASIL competition.<\/p>\n\n\n

I was overjoyed. The awards were announced during the award ceremony on September 28, 2024, at 5:00 PM during a collective virtual meeting that was broadcast live on Instagram<\/a>. It was then that I found out that I had won first place in my category, and the joy was immense.<\/p>\n\n\n

However, the biggest shock for me was that my quilt won the title \u201cBEST OF THE SHOW\u201d at the International Quilt Brazil 2024 Festival<\/a>. I went crazy with happiness. Only once before had I been so happy, when I won two first places at the 15th International PPM QUILT SHOW BRNO 2023<\/a> competition.<\/p>\n\n\n
