The Polish Patchwork Association and Forest Botanical Garden “Marszewo” run by the Gdansk Forest District with its set in Gdynia, formed the competition “From Moss and Fern’. The project was directed to the members of the association, that is to me also, because I am one of them.
Each of the participants of the project was tasked with shipping a piece of a fabric in size 50x50cm to the PPA. All fabrics were divided into smaller pieces and mixed together.
And what to come up with? I, very rarely, work with printed fabrics, combining them together is challenging for me and come up very poorly (I think). But this time I think it worked.
Those fabrics were cut with wavy bladed rotary cutter to create a big confetti.
Ha..ha ..I am already experienced. But I did not continue my work as traditional confetti method and did not covered with tulle. I used double sided adhesive fusible web and put my confetti on it. Then I pressed it with a mini iron.
I already did not have to worry about fabrics anymore, but for that the forest grew instead.
The main core of the project was to be the tree with moss on it. And I “grew” a vesicular kestrel, which is classified as lichen, instead. It was close.
I quilted the whole thing with multicolored threads, first the forest, then the foreground bark tree, and finally the kestrel.
Here is the final. I am incredibly pleased. The forest in the background came out very cool, and I am glad I was able to use the fabrics I received. Hopefully even though it is not moss or fern, I did not deviate much from the topic. It was a great experience and I am glad I decided to take a part in this project.
The task is done, my work was delivered on time. I hope it will meet the requirements.
