A while ago I was asked by my son to make a quilt as a wedding gift for his friends who planned to get married.
So, my idea was to make windmills. My son asked the pair which colors they liked, and I ran off to go shopping at the Pani Szpilka online store.
I even got there Roll&Press from Clover. I admit that in the beginning I tried to distance myself from it. I do not quite believe in all the different patchwork gadgets, but I was nicely surprised. It really is a quick and effective tool to crease the stitches and it did a great job with my windmills.
The fabrics were purchased, the game plan was decided, and went to work. It was not easy. Unfortunately, because my arm still hurts, sewing at the machine has become a bit of challenge. The plan began fall apart slightly at the basic level. But it was not that bad yet.
On less hot days, I sat on the terrace and sewed these windmills. My newly adopted female Sara kept me company.
It was great but it is also vacation, guests arrived. And again, a few precious days passed by, which were to be used for sewing. I kept telling myself with a little enthusiasm “you can do it”, and “you will finish in time”.
But no. I needed to be completely taken out. I got food poisoning. I thought I was going to die. And my patchwork lies there and waits.
I think, I can not do it. I am almost on the finish but cannot do it.
What to do? My son tells me, “mom, don’t worry, if you don’t make it in time its fine, they will get the gift at another time.” But how, I made him a promise. I will do it even if I must stay up at night. And the result? I made it in time, hurrah me.
For the first time, while sewing this patchwork I used fleece fabric on the bottom. It was actually a fleece blanket that I bought in Tesco. And I must tell you that thanks to the blanket I finished on time. Why? Because I wanted the back of the patchwork to be soft, so I quilted it very sparingly. It worked. My arm and stomach were dying but I made it. I even managed to make two pillows from scraps. I am proud of myself and I hope that the newlyweds will like it.
