The MTP Home Décor project

The MTP Home Décor project

I had planned that this time I was going to write about my previous projects that I worked on over past few years, since I started to play with patchwork. But I changed my mind and decided to show my previous project I was working on for the exhibit at MTP Home Décor.

For a long time, I could not decide what to work on, I was looking everywhere for some inspiration, I even start working on something new, but that project ended up in the garbage can.

I wanted do make something different, something colorful.

When I was rummaging through my stuff, I found an excellent project. I was positive that this was what I had been looking for. It also gave me a chance to try out my new swivel mat, which I received from Mr. Jacek Wrobel, the chief of OLFA Polska.

The project is going to be 70 cm long. It is going to be composed of three elements that will not be connected but will create one piece in the end. I printed out the template on my plotter and copied it onto freezer paper.

The design made by Julia Snegireva

After tracing the pieces, I chose to cut it along the lines. Admittedly this was the easiest route. I had to put all the pieces away into a basket because one of my helpers decide to jump into action, Mr. Patch.

Life with free running bunnies teaches you that everything that can be eaten needs to be stored in a safe place. If you react more drastically, I do not mean violence or yelling, you must realize that you will be punished. They will give you the cold shoulder and will refuse to be petted.

After cutting all the parts I had to choose the colors. And here the color wheel comes very handy. The main color will be green.

My hand dyed fabrics were already dyed, waiting to be used.

Of course, not everyone liked my selection. My bunnies prefer the blue color better.

Finally, I could use my new OLFA cutting matt. I have to say that I did not think that I would enjoy this part as much as I had.

First, the cutting matt has a big working space.

Second, it swivels. During cutting it rotates very smoothly.

Third, the fabric that lays on top, does not slip.

Fourth, it is very much self-healing matt, there is no trace of the cuts. It is wonderful.

Until now, I was using the same kind of matt from different company but there is no comparison. I would recommend that OLFA mat to anyone.

Personally, I am 100% sure that it sped up my cutting process.

I thought that this project was not going to be very time consuming, that I would sew it quickly. Like usual, I underestimated the amount of work involved.

Below you can see a piece of my first panel.

Next it isa piece of the second panel.

And this is the third one, the most time consuming.

For each panel I choose different colors but there were common colors that repeated through the panels.
