I’d like to write to you once a week about all this exciting progress in my new projects, but they are not always as impressive as I wish they were. Sometimes there isn’t even any progress at all.
So, I go back in time to my work that had done years ago. This time this is a patchwork that I sewed for my son.
Thanks to Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design I had the possibility to watch a short tutorial, where she showed me to use the ruler Rapid Fire® Hunter’s Star to make lovely little stars and assemble them into a quilt
I was able to buy it from the store based on the Czech Republic, and I went to work.
I was able to quickly hand dye the fabrics, that I needed for this project, I started the cutting process and then began connecting them together. The final effect was a little bit disappointing but not because of my new ruler for sure.
I hand dyed my fabric in a specific way that in the end I did not get the same solid color everywhere on my fabric. When I cut the pieces and sewed them it was very difficult to match up the correct colors because they all had different shades. Visually when the pieces finally came together, they didn’t have auniform look to them and that spoiled the final effect.
Now from my own experience, I now know that for this ruler I must be using solid colors only.
After assembling all the parts together, it was time to quilt it. But before that the “sandwich” must be made.
So, I put the batting in between two layers and joined them using curved safety pins.
Next, I spent a lot of time on internet trying to find the right design to quilt it on my quilt. When I finally found what I was looking for, I transferred the one into Corel and adjusted the size of my needs.
Next, I printed the design, cut it and traced the outline on specific blocks using white chalk.
It was a bit of fun, but the final effect was nice.
The last step was to quilt it and bind it. In those days I did not have my long arm and all my quilts were done on Bernina QE 440.
This quilt is still used to this day. It even had its five minutes of fame during MTP Home Décor in Poznan 2020 when it covered the table.
