This week I was finally able to complete some of my unfinished projects.
First, I started working on two patchworks that I had promised to my friend Sylwia (yes, we share the same first names). She sewed two beautiful patchworks for her grandsons. She also asked me to add the boy’s names.
The patchworks were supposed to be soft, so we used fleece on the bottom. The inscriptions needed intense quilting. From my experience I know that to much quilting on fleece takes away that softness, which is not pleasant. So, I figured that I would quilt it in layers. First, I did the letters. The fleece and the rest of the quilt I will connect at the very end.
So, I stretched the top over the frame, put the foam filling under and started to quilt. I used temporary spray glue # 39, to keep the foam filling and the top together.
Additionally, I secured the filling two with pins, just in case.
After quilting the inscriptions, I took off the top from the frame and put the fleece under the top and quilted it a little. I did not put any additional filling between the top and the botton. It was more important to make it soft and light in use.
When those two patchworks were finished, I started to work on the table runner that my husband had ordered. He has been waiting pretty long for his turn.
My task was to add an inscription and quilt so that it looks nice. The inscription was made using the rough edge application method. And secured it with zig-zag stich. The zig-zag stich was made after entire quilting process was finished.
I cut the letters from hand-dyed fabric. I dyed it in soft shades of bronze.
As a top I used white fabric with delicate flower print that I bought at b-craft.pl, quilted with meander’s pattern with cream-colored thread. I also designed the quilting, which was supposed to make the table runner more interesting. For this purpose, I used COREL.
The quilting pattern was drawn using water-soluble pen.
And so that is how I succeed finishing some long overdue projects.
Now I am up to date.
Of course, I am skipping my two UFO’s (unfinished objects) but I will fight with them another time.
