Today will be a bit unusual because it is all about the recycling of foam, also known as a sponge. We willstick with calling it a sponge.
Some time ago my husband received a package in which the item he purchased was secured with a sponge. As you can see on the photo below, there was lot of it.
I am a type of person that we call “a hamster” meaning I do safe things for later just in case it might be needed.
That day finally came.
In my family, besides humans, I have two dogs Ares and Sara, two rabbits Latka and Pimpek and recently a cat called Kitek. Each one of them has their own home, these are two dog houses, and a den under the table. Unfortunately, the cat is homeless. So, I decided to change that. Using the sponges that I had had stored away; I went to work.
The sponge got a second life.
First, I made the bottom of the cat’s house. I had to connect several pieces of the sponge together to get the desired size. To do this, I used double sided adhesive tape that is normally used for carpets.
I love this tape.
To make the floor structure durable, I use two layers of the sponge. Of, course, I use the double-sided tape to keep them together.
Next, I started working on the side walls and the roof. Everything was made using the sponge. In order to make them durable, I used two layers.
I connected the sponges using the duct tape and glued them together with double sided adhesive tape.
When the sponge floor was ready, I covered it up with a soft flees and sewed it by hand.
Then I wrapped the walls and the roof.
When the bottom and the walls were ready, I connected them by hand stich.
Ta da! The cottage is almost ready. Only the back and the front walls.
The front and the back were cut out. Over here I used just one layer of the sponge. I covered it with flees and sewed by hand.
Now the most difficult part, connecting all the pieces together. I admit it was not easy. I am not able to tell you how many times I pricked in my fingers with the needle, even though I tried not to.
The cottage is ready. It just needs a soft pillow so Kitek is comfortable. Of course, made from the same soft fleece.
Welcome Kitek.
It took only a few minutes for Kitek to move into his new house.
Finally, I no longer have any homeless pets.
