Have you ever experienced creative drought? Since the holiday break and the big renovation of my studio, I have been living in such a mood. I was aware of my situation, and at the same time I did not want to accept it, but it was hard to generate that spark that would ignite a creative flame in me.
That feeling persisted until last Friday. That day I stumbled on to a blog called “Persimon and Dreams” by Kim Lapacek, and on it I found a fun project called PROJECT QUILTING. She writes that the design does not have to be a traditional duvet but must meet at least one of these three requirements: include patchwork, include an applique, or have three layers sewn together by hand or machine. Kim challenges any participants to complete it in one week.
Exactly, one week, and I started working on mine last Friday, and Sunday is just around the corner.
So, I got to work. This week only two colors, gray and yellow, will dominate the challenge.

The design is ready, sketched by Beaubelle, and used legally by me. This is not an overly ambitious project, but I am short on time, and this will fit my new studio perfectly.
First, I printed myself some half -lenght mannequins. Next, I copied them on to double sided fusible web.
Four mannequins were to be gray, and the fifth one in the middle was to be yellow. After I copied my mannequins, I started to copy and cut the designs. I never use a plotter or laser cutter to cut out my projects. I have always cut them manually. I have to say that this was not easy. Sometimes I needed to improvise. It’s not perfect, but it worked.
When everything was cut out, I found something in my closet that would be perfect as the background. I dyed it by myself and it suited my design perfectly. Next, I glued everything together. My quilt is almost ready.
The mannequins, apart from being glued to the fabric, were additionally sewn by hand with a gray basting stich.
I also painted the yellow parts with some gold glitter spray paint to make them shimmer nicely.
I applied the paint by spraying it into a small bowl and then used a small brush to gently spread it onto the yellow fabric.
I decided to quilt tiny dresses in the background of the quilt.
They turned out great. The dresses are still visible on the back of the quilt because the fabric I used is a light gray color.
They are less visible on the front side because the fabric has yellow-gray spots.
Everything turned out beautifully.
At the end, I sewed the binding using the same yellow-gray color that was used on the top.
I like it. My first challenge is finished.
