I didn’t even know that dyeing fabric could be so exhausting. I gave myself a few days of break to rest and recharge my” batteries”. However, humans are not created to do nothing, so I decided to make a quick rug for my cat. The old one has faded, so it is time for a new one.
In the beginning I had planned to buy some Cotton Spaghetti Yarn. It is a type of recycled cotton yarn from T-shirts, a by-product of the textile industry. I was just about to buy some when I realized that I have a few meters of cotton knit in my storage. I bought some in a store, (probably 10 years ago) and have not used it until today. It will be perfect for the rug.
So, I got to work. First, I cut the fabric into 1 cm strips, (more or less.) It took longer than I thought but it worked out.
I sewed the cut strips together, creating a long strand of pasta. It formed a lovely ball.
When it was ready, I started crocheting. I didn’t have any set schematic in mind. While crocheting I came up with a pattern, which resulted in frequent ripping. Mostly I added for a lot of meshes, which caused the rug to wrinkle. Of course, that meant more ripping.
I was hoping to have enough of the pasta to finish, but unfortunately, I ran out. I needed to buy some extra cotton yarn in a different color in the KOKONKI store. I think the rug looks fine. My cat is happy.
