Hi, this is Sylwia 2
You already know that Sylwia has a problem with her arm, so I’m going to quickly fill in for her and show you my cards. I found my inspiration at the Collage Quilter Academy group, led by Emily Woodward Taylor. I have always loved this technique, so I decided to give it a try with something small.
While working on the “Painting by Numbers” series I was left with thousands of colorful scraps. These are all my offcuts on double sided fusible web.
I liked the Christmas ornament the most so printed it, regardless of the fact that my printer was begging me for some ink.
On baking paper, I traced the shape of the glass bauble and the ribbon on to some baking paper.
I separated the bauble from the ribbon.
First, I arranged the bauble and gave it a good press. I did the same with the ribbon. I used a little weight to keep the paper from bending.
The back side of the ribbon and the glass bauble.
Following to the lines, I cut the shape of the glass bauble and the ribbon.
Next, I cut two rectangles using a stiffener with glue on one side. The stiffener is used when sewing
cosmetics or shopping bags. My rectangles are the size of a school notebook. (approx. 15cm x 21cm)
I put the background of the card on one of the rectangles, no glue side and quilted. I chose the decorative stitch I have in my sewing machine. I almost never use it, but if I already have it why not.
Quilted background, the material was dyed by Sylwia Ignatowska.
I peeled off the backing paper from the glass ball end the ribbon.
I arranged both, the bauble and the ribbon on the quilted background.
And pressed well.
I stitched it on with satin stich.
Using the polyester thread, I lightly quilted the bauble and the ribbon.
Next up is the other rectangle of the stiffener, I placed the material which will be used as the back andstitched around as close to the edge as I could, on the side with no adhesive, to connect the two pieces.
These are the trimmed backs. This side is the one with the glue.
I those two, glue to each other and press it.
I stitched around using satin stitch and my Christmas Card is ready.
The card is stiff, thanks to the two layers of the stiffener, and glued to each other. All unwanted stitchesare not visible.
