There is a polish expression that says, “Z motyką na słońce,” (with a hoe to the sun) which loosely means to bite off more than you can chew. This perfectly reflects my feelings while working on my last quilt. I thought that this project would go quickly and easily but it turned into a big challenge.
The quilt is supposed to be about 250 cm long and 155 cm wide, but I’m still not sure how it will look once it’s finished.
Just imagine, black fabric quilted with colorful threads.
Before I started quilting, I had to transfer the design to the fabric. It took me two days of hard work. But it was worth it.
I stretched my quilt onto my long arm on May 7th and made my first stitches. Then I had to take it off because I had an urgent commission. On May 10th, I put it back and continued to quilt.
It’s July 3rd and I am still working on it. I was hoping that by now I’d be able to show you the finished product. Unfortunately, I cannot.
I do not know how much longer this is going to take. Every week I think that surely these will be the last days of quilting, but it just keeps going, never-ending. The week comes to an end, another begins, and I am still here, quilting.
On my previous mandala, “Millionaire II”, I made 1,407,768 stiches and it seemed that was my record. As of today, I’ve passed 2,800,000 already, and I know there is a lot more to come.
Hopefully next week I will be able to write that I’ve finally finished. Please, keep your fingers crossed for me.
