The game “Round Bobbin”- Coral. Today I want to share with you my experience participating in a unique project organized by the Swiss guild, patCHquilt. On the guild’s upcoming 35th Anniversary in 2024, they invite all EQA members to take part in an international challenge. It involves creating 35 small projects measuring 10×10 cm, which will present various topics related to patchwork and textile art. Each work is to be attached to a 12 cm wide wooden spool that we will receive from the organizers. Finally, all the projects are to be combined into one long strip that will hang in the exhibition.
This is an interesting and creative challenge, that allowed me to try different methods and materials. I love playing with colors, shapes, beads, buttons, and threads. I have always wanted to make small projects because they are quick and easy to make. Now I have the chance to make as many as thirty-five of these miniatures.
So far, I have managed to complete just one. I started with the previous topic, coral.
I was inspired by Matthew Cole’s painting, which shows the beauty of the underwater world.
I drew my corals on a piece of paper with a felt-tip pen. On the left there is the original image and on the right is its mirror image.
I must tell you that the cutting process was not easy. I need new scissors with better cutting edge.
Then I sewed them by hand and added beads for effect. I really like my first picture.
