Today, I’d like to share with you my project that I created for the ‘Flower Power’ patchwork challenge organized by the European Quilt Association (EQA). This challenge encourages participants to create quilts inspired by flowers and nature. Each patchwork piece must have a circular shape and fit within a 30 cm diameter. Participants are free to use any techniques and materials, as long as they are related to flowers.
One day, I came across an incredible drawing by Agnieszka Murphy titled ‘Scandinavian Folk.’ Inspired by it, I decided to transform it into a patchwork mandala, and that’s how my creative adventure began.
The artwork was meant to be small, with a 30 cm diameter, yet the pattern was intricate. I pondered how to execute it. This time, in addition to my trusty scissors, I enlisted the help of a small laser for cutting the finer elements. The cutting process was swift, but whether I’ll use the laser again remains uncertain.
All the elements were tiny. Each piece had to be meticulously placed using tweezers.
Next came the quilting stage. Even for such small projects, I employed a long-arm quilting machine. It was a challenge, but I succeeded.
After quilting, I decorated the round patchwork with beads in various colours.
Finally, I added binding and sewed on the beads, to finish my project.
